Caritas College Graduation & End of Year Mass

26.11.18

On Friday November 16 Caritas College farewelled our Graduates for 2018 with a Mass of Thanksgiving. The 27 graduates processed into our sacred space with our Reception students, a tangible symbol of the journey our students have been on. Fr Khalid and Fr Hau were our celebrants, with our 2019 student leaders taking on a role in leading prayers and readings. The graduates were presented with a candle by a family member or friend to signify the light of Christ that will travel life’s journey with them. A special moment during the celebration was our R-4 students singing ‘The joy is in the journey’ as a gift to the graduates.  They had secretly practised this song which emphasised our hopes for these young people as they transition from our community.

Mrs Nichii Mardon, Director of Education, Port Pirie Diocese,  addressed the congregation speaking to our 2018 school theme ‘journeying together with open hearts and minds’ linking her speech perfectly with the footprints and shoes that students and staff across the whole school had made to adorn our sacred space. The footprints were beautiful expressions of the many things we as a community are thankful for and also complemented the Gospel chosen for the Mass, The road to Emmaus.

Award presentations followed the conclusion of Mass with Sr Helen Duke kindly presenting the Mary MacKillop Christian Leadership Awards to:

Charlee Morgan and Seth Chapman (R-6)
Ella Chamberlain and Brady Corbett (7-9)
April McInerney and Patrick Mardon (10-12)

And then much to her surprise Sr Helen was presented with the Rowan Ramsey School Community Award.

During the evening of the same day, our graduates gathered with their families, staff and invited guests for a dinner and awards presentation. The students presented themselves beautifully and enjoyed the significance of the occasion; a milestone in their lives.
